Top 100 Hits of 1977 according to San Diego's B-100: 100-51

During the time I was enjoying WLS straight outta Chicago while living in the heart of the Midwest, another radio station was making waves in Southern California.

Since it first signed on in September 1959, KFMB-FM had featured beautiful music but by 1975 they were dead last in the three-way (soon to be a four-way) ratings race among beautiful music stations in San Diego. KFMB's General Manager, Paul Palmer, sought a format change in March 1975 and consulted KFMB-AM Program Director, Bobby Rich.
When Paul asked me what I thought we should do with it I said “Rock that turkey and go for the KCBQ audience.” He admitted that was what he had been thinking and asked me how I would go about it. My original proposal included to get away from the KFMB image by changing call letters to something that included the letter “Q” so we could be “The FM Q” and call the station “Q-101”.  When I was told the company would NOT change call letters I decided to call it “B-101”.  Then I realized the competing album rock station KGB was calling itself “The 101”.  That’s how I came to the decision name it “B-100”

B-100 came on screaming with “Better Boogie” as their battle cry. Soon, the station's first window decal, the B-100 Boogie Ball began appearing everywhere and B-100 went from worst to first in two years, becoming the first contemporary FM station in the United States to capture number one in the 12+ ratings.

What follows is the bottom half of the 100 Top Hits of 1977, according to the station. It is the very music that helped push B-100 to the top of the ratings.
